Bitcoin’s Future Lies in Unity, Not Division

The influence of Trump’s endorsement on how Bitcoin is perceived.

The truth is, since Trump’s victory in 2016 and Hillary Clinton’s infamous “basket of deplorables” remark, the political divide in our country has surged. This has left numerous individuals feeling politically displaced, with some surveys indicating that this could be between 70 million to 100 million Americans.

The right is now under the control of Trump, who, devoid of any political philosophy or value system, leads the party on the whims of his ego and the inconsistencies that it brings.

As a person who leans politically to the left and outspoken critic of Donald Trump, I’m deeply dismayed by the idea of such a self-absorbed, narcissistic figure returning to the presidency. This extends beyond my personal feelings and includes the potential negative impact on issues I greatly value in the United States, such as a woman’s autonomy over her body, reproductive rights, immigration, international relations, and more, apart from my interest in Bitcoin.

Campaigns such as Greenpeace USA and Elizabeth Warren’s anti-cryptocurrency movement already perceive Bitcoin as a sanctuary for criminals and terrorists, tycoons of the climate-rejecting fossil fuel industry, and exclusively for the affluent and Wall Street from the left. Regardless of increasing evidence that suggests Bitcoin is one of the most eco-friendly industries globally and its growing appeal to progressives due to its application in human rights cases, advocating for it continues to pose challenges.

The active support and open contributions to the Trump campaign from Bitcoin enthusiasts significantly complicates my work. It’s as if we shifted metaphorically from a steady and strategic pursuit of Bitcoin adoption, akin to fishing, to a rather rash act comparable to tossing a grenade into the water without considering the broader implications.

Exploring bitcoin’s political impartiality amidst division

I started engaging with Bitcoin and took up the pen as a Progressive Bitcoin advocate because I was worried about Bitcoin being viewed as a “right-wing” tool or something that divided people politically. As an open-source, digital peer-to-peer cash system, it doesn’t belong to any specific ideology or political party. I sincerely think that it holds immense significance in radically bettering our world and the lives of countless individuals.

Since Donald Trump started publicly supporting Bitcoin as part of his presidential campaign this year, I have found myself experiencing various mixed feelings and worries.

Bitcoin is supposed to be a utility that transcends varying ideologies and proves useful for everyone. However, I am veritably worried that it might align with Trumpism in the years to come.

As someone who votes independently and is deeply invested in the enduring success of Bitcoin – along with wanting to see worldwide benefits – I am unable to back Donald Trump. You’re not obligated to vote for him even if you are a supporter or user of Bitcoin!

With regard to the social aspect of Bitcoin: persist in providing education about Bitcoin; promote grassroots adoption at personal and community levels; hold politicians responsible when they cross the line (such as Elizabeth Warren’s wish for indirect bans on self-custody). Don’t naively hang on to the promises made by politicians during their campaigns – they’re simply seeking votes, regardless of their actions post-election!

I believe it’s unwise for Bitcoin supporters to invest everything in Trump, or any political figure for that matter. This implies considerable reputational threats that might deter potential adoption in Australia, where it may be perceived as either a “Trump thing” or associated with the “right-wing.” Political figures could further intensify their negative stance towards Bitcoin.

It doesn’t matter whether you agree or disagree with my points – my aim is to highlight that within the increasing number of Trump supporters in our community, not everyone shares the same opinion. It must be understood that Bitcoin is genuinely for anyone, irrespective of your political affiliations during the upcoming November elections!

The left-leaning side has been tainted by an obsession with ideological purity. If your perspective isn’t sanctioned by the Leftist Regime (or if you don’t have a deep understanding of a multitude of left-wing philosophers), you’re dismissed. This uncompromising dogma also explains their reluctance to engage with matters like bitcoin, because they view it as currency of the right.
